You’ve made the decision to sell! Great! Whatever your reasons: It’s time to leave California or just moving into a different neighborhood, you’re going to need to get your house on the market quick.
It is time to get your house on the market, and ready to sell. We’re going to through it step by step.
You know it as curb appeal. It is what everybody sees when they pull up to your house, and they look at it online. Curb appeal is huge. It will keep them watching longer, scanning more pictures, wanting to make an appointment to see inside your house.
First things first!
Get the lawn tidied, trees trimmed, bushes cleaned up a little bit. Get it ready so that it looks as much like model home as possible. If you don’t have anything that is model home-ish in your front yard go ahead and get a bag of bark from Home Depot.
Don’t sweat it, don’t spend a lot of money. Bag of bark, and some of the latest flowers that are in season. You could probably get out of there under $30.00, and get the front of your house looking great.
Clear the Walkway
Next thing we want to do is tidy up your walkway. Clean up all of the grass, and the bits and pieces that fall from the trees. Get that in order.
If you’ve got a hose that’s straggly and unwound tidy that up. That’ll be prettier in the pictures if it’s not straggly and laying on the front of your house.
Rinse the Garage
Next thing is get your garage rinsed off. Rinse off the cobwebs. Clean it all off. It doesn’t matter if it’s attached or detached, one car, two car, four car. Rinse off all the lights. Get it all ready to go.
If you’ve got Christmas lights up, and it’s April can you take those down please? You don’t need to have Christmas lights up in Springtime. They need to come down.
Light it up.
Replace the light fixture by your front door. If it is dim or not really lit very well, whether it’s an old bulb or an old fixture just replace that.
It’s going to be easier for people when they come into your house, see the entryway right as they’re waiting for the realtor to get them into the house. Make it clean, fresh, and bright right in that area. Maybe even wipe off your front door.
Where do you live?
Can we see your address? Is it clear? Does it have the lights behind it so that it can be illuminated? Go ahead and replace those little baby bulbs in there.
Or if your address is not visible at pull up maybe get some of the numbers, and put them somewhere on the front of your house. Make it easy for people to see.
Do a double take
The last thing on day one of getting your house ready to sell is going to be just give it a once over.
Stand at your front door, look around, look up, look down. Do you have cobwebs? Do you have funk, birds nests, bees nest beginning? Just give it a once over, and you are ready to go.
Wrapping it up!
So, this is Day 1 of a five-day series on getting your house ready to sell so you can move on up, move on out, or scale down, whatever your choices are. Thank you so much for watching, and we’ll see you on Day 2.
